About Kay-Cafe

After watching "Read it and Weep" in the summer of 2006 I wanted to know more about Kay Panabaker because I thought she was a really great actress. After doing some research online, I discovered that there were barely any fansites for her. That's when I said to myself "You know what? Kay deserves a site where her fans can connect and appreciate her great work." And that is how I created Kay-Cafe.

A lot of people ask me how I came up with such an original name. It was actually pretty simple. I like being creative and unique, so I wanted to name my fansite something other than Kay Fans or Kay Online (not that those are bad names). I simply went to a rhyming website and found words that rhyme with Kay. After seeing Cafe appear on the screen, I knew I had found my website's name. Kay-Cafe just sounded so great and unique!

And so, I got to work. I didn't have any image accounts at the time, so the first layout I created had tags all over the pictures. I spent hours trying to find pictures and information about Kay so I would have at least a decent amount of content on the site. It took me about 2 months to complete, but Kay-Cafe was finally ready to open!

Originally, Kay-Cafe was going to be hosted on Freewebs. I really wanted the site to be more professional, though, so I applied for hosting at a few places. Finally, fansites.hollywood.com accepted us! I had no what FTP was, let alone how to use it. After weeks of practicing and reading tons of tutorials, I finally learned how to use FTP. I transferred everything to our new host, and made a new layout. The site was turning out great!

A few months after opening, I received an email from Shannon, who was offering me a domain name for Kay-Cafe! I was so excited!! After learning how to use set up a Coppermine Gallery and Cutenews updates, Kay-Cafe was officially hosted! Shortly after I had finished transferring pictures into our new gallery, the gallery was accidentally deleted. I put up a poll asking our visitors if they would like to continue having a gallery on the site. The majority of people answered yes, so I got to work and started re-adding pictures to the gallery.

Once the gallery was finally completely updated with all of our old pictures, Kay-Cafe got hacked, and everything was deleted!

As you can tell, Kay-Cafe has been through many ups and downs. I've put tons of hours into this site, and I really hope everyone enjoys it!
